Into the bag, not through it. How Rollyx packs casters thanks to NOMATECH

Rollyx needed to package heavy furniture casters without damaging the bags or risking incomplete packs reaching customers. We delivered a solution with an inclined forming tube that gently guides the casters into the bag, while an inline checkweigher verifies that nothing is missing.

The Challenge: Replacing aging machines and eliminating product damage

Packaging at Rollyx is connected directly to an automated assembly line, making it a stable part of the manufacturing process. The product range had already been packaged automatically in the past. Years ago, Italian packaging machines were installed together with the automated assembly line.
Over time, however, age and wear became a significant issue. Rollyx therefore started looking for a new solution capable of:

  • gently guiding heavy casters into the bag,
  • checking every finished package.

This was not a matter of supplying “just another packaging machine". The solution had to respect the product itself, the production environment, and the required output quality.

The Solution: Replacing free fall with controlled sliding

A furniture caster is not a candy. When a heavy metal component falls into a bag through a standard vertical forming tube, it can damage the packaging. That is why we supplied Rollyx with a vertical packaging machine featuring an inclined design that ensures a gradual, controlled, and above all gentle slide of the casters into the bag.
The TOBOGAN SPECIAL A1 packaging machine forms bags from a roll of heat-sealable packaging material, doses the product into them, and then seals the bag. It is designed for free-flowing, solid, and fragile products — including applications where a standard vertical drop could cause damage.

Why are Rollyx bags full of holes?

For Rollyx, the challenge was not only getting the casters safely into the bag. The bags also had to be perforated. Perforation helps reduce shipping volume and is also related to packaging safety requirements, including child safety considerations. Rollyx complemented our machine with its own dosing, date coding, and perforation units.
As a result, the final solution is not a universal off-the-shelf machine. It is a system tailored to a specific product and a specific production environment.

Quality control: Ensuring customers receive complete packages

Gently transferring the casters into the bag solves only the first part of the challenge. The subsequent inspection is equally important. With volumes shipped worldwide, it is unrealistic to rely on visual inspection of every bag by an operator. Missing parts are not always visible at first glance.

That is why a robust stainless-steel load cell checkweigher is integrated downstream of the packaging machine. Every finished package passes across it.

The system knows the target weight of a correctly filled bag. For example, if a package should contain five casters, the scale verifies that the final weight matches the expected value. If the system detects any deviation, the bag is automatically rejected.

For operators, the process is simple.
For quality assurance, it is critical.
Because the customer at the end of the supply chain does not care whether the error occurred during dosing, packaging, or inspection. They only see that a caster is missing from the package.

Why Rollyx chose NOMATECH?

During the selection process, Rollyx contacted several companies. Nomatech was one of the few willing and able to meet the required technical specifications. In projects like this, success is not determined only by the packaging machine itself. It also depends on whether the supplier can:

  • understand the product behavior,
  • accept the technical requirements,
  • adapt the solution to real production conditions,
  • provide reliable service support.

What does Rollyx think about working with NOMATECH?

What we value most about working with NOMATECH is their ability to adapt the machine 100% to our specific packaging requirements. The result is a reliable solution that has significantly simplified and accelerated our product dispatch process. When you add excellent service availability, it was — and still is — the obvious choice for us.”
